Francis Quarles is the author of the text of this restful prayer which composer Daniel E. Gawthrop has given a warm and simple setting. Effective without being demanding, this would be a good anthem to begin teaching a choir to sing a cappella. Close Now Thine Eyes was selected for the High School and Community Chorus Reading Session at the 1999 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association.
