According to Thy Wisdom

Composer Daniel E. Gawthrop selected a text from the oral traditions of Gaelic Christianity as collected and translated by scholar Alexander Carmichael, and set it for four part a cappella chorus (with occasional divisi).

DH9804 - According to Thy Wisdom - $2.00 -

Great text! Colorful harmonies accompany these words of contemplation and encouragement. Repetitions of text, with fermatas sprinkled throughout, allows the choir to be thoughtful and expressive. I found this a cappella piece greatly enhanced the relationship or connection (musical and emotional) between conductor, choir, and audience.

According to Thy Wisdom features call and response sections, first led by the sopranos and then by the men. The piece utilizes multiple or changing meters to set the word rhythms of the traditional, sacred text (translated by Alexander
Carmichael, 1832-1912). With a dynamic range of mp-ff, it is accessible to a cappella , church, college or high school choirs with minimal divisi in the soprano, alto and men's parts. Typical of Gawthrop's choral style, there are many luscious, close harmonies and added-tone chords, which are savored at cadential points thoughout the piece. Highly recommended and gorgeous!
