Three Celtic Invocations

Celtic scholar Alexander Carmichael wandered the islands of Scotland collecting examples of the orally preserved prayers of the people and translated them into poetic English. His six volume Carmina Gaedelica is a wealth of such prayers. Composer Daniel E. Gawthrop has selected three from among the many wonderful texts in this treasure trove and set them for a cappella chorus. This set of three pieces was written for and premièred by the United States Air Force Singing Sergeants under the direction of Dr. Craig Jessop, who later became the Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
